The original idea for this four year project was born sometime in the fall of 2002. Open Source software has made significant inroads into the server market but is lagging as a viable option in the desktop arena. A project is needed to examine the feasability of Open Source based desktop computer systems. We begin by addressing the following project startup concerns:
- Funding/Project Management: Seneca College will support the project by providing the people and capital necessary to design, deploy and initially maintain the lab.
- Project Location: Emery Collegiate, a local high school with close proximity to Seneca, has agreed to host the project.
- Consultants: The Toronto District School Board will monitor progress and provide consultation on an "as-required" basis.
